Drew Estate’s Liga Privada H99 and 20 Acre Farm Make halfwheel’s The Consensus 2022 List

Drew Estate’s Liga Privada H99 and 20 Acre Farm Make halfwheel’s The Consensus 2022 List

Since 2011, halfwheel, has compiled it’s the Consensus Top 25 list by plumbing the depths of other cigar media companies’ “Top Cigar” lists and assigning scores to all the cigars contained in those lists with 25 points allotted to the No. 1 cigar, 24 to No. 2 down to one point for the No. 25 cigar. Halfwheel then tabulates those scores and the 25 cigars with the highest point totals make its The Consensus list.

“I started this concept more than a decade ago with the goal of trying to see if there was a commonality within cigar media,” writes halfwheel’s Charlie Minato, who has compiled The Consensus every year since 2011. “I never really aimed to figure out what the best cigar of the year was—after all, I could tell you my personal favorite—but I wanted to see what the collective cigar media had to say.”

For 2022, halfwheel considered 35 “Top Cigar” listings, which contained a total of 471 cigars. Drew Estate’s Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo ranked No. 8 and its 20 Acre Farm ranked No. 11.

This marks the second consecutive year that Liga Privada H99 made halfwheel’s Consensus, having placed No. 23 in the 2021 The Consensus. Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo (“H” stands for  “Hybrid”) highlights a unique dark, air-cured hybrid capa that is derived from Stalk-Cut Habano and Corojo seeds and is grown exclusively for Drew Estate by one farmer in the Connecticut River Valley. Combining the best elements of the Habano and Corojo seed varieties, the H99 capa is an elegant and distinct tobacco with intense sweet qualities that contrast well with the Mexican San Andres Otapan Negro Último Corte capote’s robust spiciness. With a tripa blend of well-aged Nicaraguan, Honduran and Pennsylvania Green River One Sucker tobaccos, Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo is a cigar that is luxurious, complex and deceptively full-bodied with notes of earth, espresso and leather.

Released in 2021, 20 Acre Farm is an ultra-premium cigar that highlights the opulent and majestic Florida Sun Grown tobacco grown by Jeff Borysiewicz on his 20-acre plot of land in Central Florida. Made at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Nicaragua using a velvety Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade Grown wrapper, a Sun Grown Habano binder, and a filler blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos from Estelí and Jalapa and Florida Sun Grown, 20 Acre Farm is a complex, refined and medium-bodied cigar with super oaky and cedary notes accompanied by a whisper of white pepper and a bright hint of citrus.
