Why Are Liga Privada Cigars So Scarce?

Nicholas Melillo, Chief Blender & Tobacco Purchaser at Drew Estate, walks you through why our Liga Privada cigars are so scarce. The answer? You’ll have to watch the video and find out!

The Reasons Liga Privada Is So Scarce

Just kidding! There are numerous reasons why Liga Privada is scarce, but here are the main reasons covered in this video. First, the weather in the Connecticut River Valley, where all Liga Privada wrapper is grown, has been extremely poor over the past few years. Cloudy skies, lots of rain, hail, and even tornadoes recently, have caused damaged, small tobacco leaves that don’t make for good wrapper.

On top of that, Drew Estate only utilizes the very top leaves of the plant, which limits us to about one to two leaves per plant on average. This creates an extremely small yield for Liga Privada wrapper, giving us a very small amount of final tobacco to use for Liga Privada.

Conclusion and Thank You

These reasons, plus the incredibly high demand by our consumers, make Liga Privada incredibly difficult to keep in stock. We understand it can be frustrating for our consumers and retailers, but unfortunately there isn’t much we can do to fix the situation (maybe we can start praying to the sun gods in Connecticut…) Thank you for your continued support and hopefully this clears up the reason Liga Privada is so hard to find.
